Reykjanes Peninsula is located along the Mid-Atlantic Ridge where the Eurasian and the North American tectonic plates are constantly drifting apart about 2 cm (1 inch) per year. That is the reason why the peninsula is highly volcanically active and small earthquakes are not rare. During the Middle Age, several eruptions occurred in Reykjanes Peninsula ; Since 2020 there has been 6 volcanic eruptions so you can never write off seeing some hot lava. At the end of the tour we will visit Hvammsvík Hot springs to relax and close the day in the best way possible before heading back.
