Hike in the Highlands, in the steaming valley of Kerlingarfjöll
We will leave from Reykjavík at 8am. To get to Kerlingarfjöll, we have to drive for approximately 3hours. Half-way, we will stop by the famous waterfall of Gullfoss. After checking it out, we will use the facilities of the visitor center and get some refreshements for our day. Now the fun begins! We will drive on the rugged roads of the icelandic highlands. On the way, we will get plenty of opportunities for picture stops, with magnificient views over glaciers. Once we arrive in Kerlingarfjöll, we will begin our hike. It is a 14km in-and-out slightly challenging hike. But a worthy one! For most of the hike, we will be walking on various terrains, in a desertic valley, surrounded by glaciers. Civilization is hours and hours away from us, and it will feel like so. After about 1.5 hour, we arrive in the Hveradalir area. The landscape changes complety. We are now overlooking an orange valleys, full of streams of hot water, and columns of smoke everywhere. The views are breathtaking, we will take the time to take it all in. We will explore this area, get down to the bottom of it and take countless pictures. After a loop in this valley, we will go back with the same path we took to get up there.
